Growing Together as Disciples
You were never meant to walk the Christian life alone. One of the most important ways to grow in wisdom and maturity as a follower of Jesus is through deep community with other disciples. The Christian journey is filled with internal struggles and external pressures. The world constantly pulls us in directions opposed to the ways of Jesus. That’s why Jesus designed apprenticeship to happen in community, not isolation. You need other disciples in your life to encourage you, challenge you, and help you stay faithful to following Jesus.
What Are Fight Clubs?
Fight Clubs are simple, intimate groups designed for the exact purpose above. Each group consists of 6 to 12 people committed to walking together through the apprenticeship journey. For our adult groups, we’ve found it most effective for men to meet with men and women to meet with women, creating a safe space for authentic vulnerability and honest conversation. Our middle school and high school Fight Clubs are co-ed, fostering intergenerational friendships and peer discipleship.
How Fight Clubs Work
Our Fight Clubs follow a consistent rhythm, meeting twice each month. During these gatherings, we do far more than study the Bible together. We encourage and spur one another on as followers of Jesus. We fight together, both for the gospel, proclaiming its power to transform lives, and against sin in our own hearts and lives.
The heart of Fight Club is practicing the ways of Jesus. We focus on nine spiritual practices, dedicating four months to each practice and covering two practices per year. These aren’t abstract concepts; they’re concrete ways to live out Jesus’s teachings and become more like Him.
During our time together, we ask each other tough questions to attempt to get beneath surface-level and comfort. We dig deep, exploring how Jesus’s ways challenge us and transform us. We pray specifically for one another, bringing our real struggles, temptations, and victories before God together. We hold each other accountable, not out of judgment, but out of love. We celebrate growth and repent together when we stumble.
Why Fight Clubs Matter
This is apprenticeship as Jesus intended it. It’s messy and real. It’s challenging and encouraging. It’s exactly what you need to keep growing in your faith and becoming the disciple Jesus is calling you to be.
