We are sent
Why does God send us? The answer is found in what Jesus did that no other king in history has ever done.
King Jesus left His royal throne. He stepped down from heaven’s glory and became one of us. He entered into our humanity completely and authentically. He breathed our air. He slept and grew tired. He ate meals and experienced hunger. He worked with His hands. He built relationships. He did all of this not to show us what kingship looks like in power or dominance, but to reveal what kingdom living actually looks like. His life was an invitation to a radically different way of being human.
But Jesus didn’t stop there. He did something that no other king has ever done: He laid down His life for His enemies. We were a traitor race, rebellious and broken. Yet instead of condemning us, Jesus became a ransom for us. He took upon Himself the judgment we deserved and offered us the restoration we could never earn. Through His sacrifice, He repaired what sin had broken between humanity and God. He made a way for us to be reconciled to our Creator.
This is why we are sent. Because King Jesus reconciled us to God, He now calls us to go. We are sent into our neighborhoods, into our workplaces, into our cities to live the kingdom life He modeled for us. We are sent to restore all things back to God through Him. We are sent to show others that a different way of living is possible, a way characterized by love, sacrifice, justice, and redemption. Every Christian is a missionary, not just those on a distant continent. Our mission field is where we live.
