Reunion Gatherings

These gatherings are on the 1st & 3rd Sundays of each month at 10:30am.

Olympia City Church
2424 Heritage Ct SW
Olympia, WA 98502

Reunion gatherings are set aside opportunities we take to learn about Jesus and his ways, to experience a sense of reunion together, and to celebrate Jesus’ work in and through us in our city. As a gathered and scattered church, we wait in great anticipation for these times together. During these gatherings we will enjoy live music, biblical teaching, and share stories of living out the ways of Jesus.

WHAT ABOUT CHILDREN
During these gatherings we provide childcare for PreK children. As early as 10:15am before the gathering, you may check-in your child at the CityKids room. Children K-12th sit in the gathering with their family. We will typically have color and/or activity sheets during this time for the younger children. We also incorporate a children’s curriculum video at the beginning of the gathering time, as well as, provide at-home materials that go with the video to assist parents in discipling their children.

Sunday Sabbaths

During a calendar year, there are four of twelve months that have what we call a 5th Sunday. We say this because of the obvious…there are five Sundays in those months instead of four. On these four Sundays we observe what we call a “Sunday Sabbath” and do not schedule any gatherings. We do this to tell ourselves to rest.

Why is a Sabbath so important? It’s a reminder that this day is blessed by God and set aside for rest and worship. One of the most important things we can do as Jesus’ followers is to find our rest and make time to remind ourselves that He is the one in control.

In Richard Foster’s book, Celebration of Discipline, he says, “The human condition is prone to restlessness, and our digital age and consumeristic culture only exacerbates the problem.” We must model the restfulness of Jesus, which is more than just a day - it is the spirit that he wants us to live by all week long.

On these Sundays, just four times each year, we challenge ourselves to enjoy the day and just rest; rest in God, His love, and His provision. We pursue living in the present with family and friends, enjoying His beautiful creation.

City Group Gatherings

These gatherings are on the 2nd & 4th Sundays of each month at 10:30am.

Olympia City Church
2424 Heritage Ct SW
Olympia, WA 98502

In a City Group gathering, we take what we were taught at the previous Reunion gathering and learn how to put it into practice. We believe Jesus transforms us, so we equip through the lens of the ways of Jesus, and learn how to be a disciple of Jesus and live out his ways together, in word and deed.

Each individual in a City Group will belong to and enjoy a growing community of Jesus people. This community often resembles a family more closely than just a collection of people. As a gathered and scattered church, we love spending this time together sharing meals, throwing parties, learning how to live, taking communion, serving on mission, and celebrating/recreating together.

WHAT ABOUT CHILDREN
During these gatherings we provide childcare for PreK children only during our discussion time, which typically follows our shared meal. We do incorporate a children’s curriculum video at the beginning of the gathering time, as well as, provide at-home materials that go with the video to assist parents in discipling their children. We will typically have fidgets and manipulatives available during this time for children (and big children too ;) Ha!),

Teen Fight Nights

These gatherings are on the 4th Sunday Night of each month at 5:00pm.

Our teens (6th-12th grade) gather once each month to follow our gathering rhythm. We use this time to play games, have a group Bible discussion about our Jesus-centered topic that evening, and then break out into smaller Fight Clubs to dig deeper into that topic.

We love to have fun so we attempt to create an environment that blends a fun atmosphere that encourages friendship and community, while also pursuing a greater allegiance to Jesus and His teachings.

Fight Clubs

In order for the roots of faith & wisdom to grow deep, disciples need other disciples. Fight Clubs are simple groups of 6-12 men or women who meet together to experience closeness and support, as well as, challenge each other.

Each Fight Club is unique but centered on one thing: the good news of Jesus! By centering on Jesus, the focus can be on a message that is such better news than religious performance. During these gatherings we will fight together, both for the gospel and against sin in our lives. We read and dig deep into scripture that relates to what we’re learning in our Reunion and City Group gatherings, we ask each other tough questions and pray specifically for each other, and we focus on practicing the ways of Jesus to become like him.

Fight Clubs generally gather twice each month to follow our gathering rhythm. We use this time together to encourage and challenge one another to live in such a way that our lives are transformed for the better, and so that the world may see who God truly is.
